Taku ihi! Taku wehi! Taku wana!
Kapahaka: A performers perspective
A ground-breaking hybrid of 'Ted Talks', a theatre show and a ‘micro’ conference, and designed to be accessible to all Aotearoa, M9 presents nine unique Māori voices to celebrate of Te Matatini through Whakaaturanga, Whakaari, Whakawhiti Kōrero - Presentation, Performance, Conversation.
The third instalment of M9 centres around the profound impact kapahaka has had on the lives of our kaikōrero both personally and professionally; how it has (re)connected them to te ao Māori, te reo Māori and in some instances, helped them return to their tūrangawaewae. It will explore the importance of these key themes and the role that kapahaka plays in cultural retention, particularly given that the majority of Māori are based in urban centres away from their hapū and iwi.
